My childhood was rife with examples of entrepreneurship—and the financial pressures that come with it.
My grandfather first began investing in real estate in the 1960's while living in Washington, D.C. He continued investing in real estate in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. As he expanded, he continued to buy, repair, and rent houses at affordable prices in the small town I call home. Most of the carpentry and plumbing work consisted of family members pitching in whenever possible. I watched him navigate lean times and unexpected expenses, while maintaining a stabile business.
In addition to real estate, we also operated a poultry farm for roughly twenty years, which came with its own unique challenges and experiences.
Growing up around these family businesses taught me that even the hardest — working people can face crushing financial pressure — and that most cannot afford the sophisticated legal help when they need it most. These experiences led me to attend law school where I combined my interests in financial management, entrepreneurship and the law.
I began my legal career in corporate bankruptcy law and business litigation. I have spent time in and out of court representing multimillion dollar clients in complex restructurings. However, I never forgot the many small business owners, entrepreneurs, and everyday people who are struggling with legal issues and crippling debt.
Now, my focus is on helping people drowning in debt or who because of job loss need a fresh start. I help business owners who have poured everything they have in their business, but for a number of reasons, need to restructure or reorganize. So whether you are a sole proprietor facing business debt or a family struggling to make ends meet, hope is not lost.
I strive to educate and guide my clients through the bankruptcy process in a way that creates a positive experience during a tough time.
